LOL
My own Blog has languished as well, I'm definitely located on Facebook but for 8 years I've been a book reviewer and I'm now working 3 jobs. Quite the change from 2005 when I was a stay at home mom and I thought Blogger was the absolute best because I could visit ADULTS when I wasn't changing diapers. Thanks for being a part of that time in my life when I lived vicariously through your posts, as you did things I never dreamed of doing. And congrats on the job - I'm glad things are working out for you!!! ::high five::
MicheleMichelehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08573730655117969888noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8818695.post-5111309102290280462012-05-03T23:27:39.681-05:002012-05-03T23:27:39.681-05:00Awesome read! Our early system also comprised of d6's, but instead of an armor class style combat, we used a reactive combat system.

Player A rolls 1d6 to hit, if it's 1,2, or 3, he misses. If it's 4,5, or 6, he hits. BUT!

Bad Guy B rolls his 1d6 to defend, and has to roll higher than the player to deflect the attack.

Weapons determined a flat rate of damage, and armor did a flat rate of mitigation.

I remember my first big campaign was at a new year's party at our church, me and a group of about 8 other people sat around a table in one of the classrooms and i ran some scenario off the top of my head (i'm almost always the story teller/moderator). Dungeon crawling and high shenanigans ensued that culminated in a battle against a Wyvern with more HP than we had time to hack away at. So one of the players had his Gnome character strap a bunch of explosives to his chest, light em up, and jumped down the Wyvern's throat. We lost a character, but killed the beast, all in time to go home.

That was about 12 years ago, and my game has developed far since then. But i still go back to those rules from time to time, for simplicity's sake. I have a brother in law who is a little mentally challenged, and he says he likes the simple system better, so i play that with him.j. smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16168895704409343087noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8818695.post-60776235112366701422012-03-04T11:25:44.053-06:002012-03-04T11:25:44.053-06:00As a fan of Star Trek and the original Battlestar ...As a fan of Star Trek and the original Battlestar Galactica -- those flying scenes in April were absolute fun for me to watch.
I loved seeing all the Enterprise renditions.

The one thing I don't think I've ever done is a retrospect of my life in the previous year. And last year, because of all the changes, I don't think I want to. It was like an earthquake - we made it through but we're not the same.

It takes courage to do what you do and have done.

Onward and upward because all you can do is your best. Happy 2012 and may you find moments of sheer bliss in EUREKA moments of satisfaction.

::waves::
MicheleMichelehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08573730655117969888noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8818695.post-13606142511099783392012-01-15T08:36:06.155-06:002012-01-15T08:36:06.155-06:00It's very beautiful blog, I'm happy to vis...It's very beautiful blog, I'm happy to visit your blog,
caffeine addiction symptoms
regards..Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13995726545139997486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8818695.post-66719348632490104112011-11-03T05:44:00.896-05:002011-11-03T05:44:00.896-05:00Ah, we were following the correct play order. We have had about 3 rounds of "updated rules" as we looked at the a bit closer and applying what seemed to be reasonable.

The encounter reading style I can see making the play more interesting, but also more difficult since you can't evaluate the odds and impacts of the various outcomes.

What was the game results using these rules?Wayne.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15378713494960264817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8818695.post-30522097809983259122011-11-02T09:15:06.838-05:002011-11-02T09:15:06.838-05:00Wayne --

Everyone moves in other dimensions.

3. Everyone has encounters in Arkham.

4. Everyone has encounters in other dimensions.

5. Mythos phase.

We learned that gates obliterate clue tokens when they open. Mostly, it was playing with some awesome out-of-state players (and the game's creators) that clarified the flow of the rules for us.

Lastly, we picked up a table rule we loved: When a player has an encounter, have the player next to them read the card to them. Not ALL of the card, though; only have them read up until the decision point. The result is a much more "RPG"-style adventure for everyone.

All in all, I fell in love with Arkham Horror. It was worth the weekend!Avindairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13025041690296714527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8818695.post-51205915619554224032011-11-02T06:13:51.180-05:002011-11-02T06:13:51.180-05:00Interesting reflection. There's also a goodly contingent of the folks who do the same thing we do, so it's a reunion of sorts each time. We'll be back in MN in 2012... ;-)

Your weekend and role playing theory matches ours. This weekend there's a convention 10 miles from us. We even have a friend from NJ staying to attend. But while he's at the convention, we're going to go to an amusement park with friends.

I rank convention interest based on how many friends are going to be there, how many known fun activities are planned (gaming, dance, movie fest etc) and lastly by guests and panel discussions. I'd rather talk SF with friends than listen to folks repeat the same arguments I've heard for a decade.Wayne.https://www.blogger.com/profile/15378713494960264817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8818695.post-84657575720877708522010-05-17T08:11:57.809-05:002010-05-17T08:11:57.809-05:00Wonderful post, hon.
